As we all are aware that UPSC is considered as the toughest exam that millions of Indian aspirants wish to clear. Aspirants across India dedicate years of hard work in order to clear the UPSC exam. The UPSC exam (officially known as the Civil Services Examination) is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) annually.
Those who clear all the three stages of the exam enter into the prestigious civil services of the country, and become officers in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), etc. UPSC is regarded as one of the toughest exams in the country which is answered by more than 10 lakh aspirants annually out of which only 700-800 make their way into Civil services.
But as we all must be aware of the pandemic caused by covid19 which has created havoc not just in India but across the globe. India has been fighting the pandemic in a very brave manner. Everyone is requested to stay at home and be safe. India is been in lockdown from the day Janta curfew was held on 23rd March and today has entered into the third phase of lockdown.
In such a situation the aspirants preparing for the UPSC exam were under dilemma as to whether the exams would be postponed or not. As the aspirants put into hours of hard work for the preparation and also have to maintain the right strategies, Exam dates were very crucial for them.
UPSC exam was earlier scheduled to be on the 31st of May 2020. The UPSC Commission held a special meeting on May 4, 2020, i.e. today to review the situation after the second phase of the nation-wide lockdown due to COVID-19. Taking notice of the extension of restrictions, the Commission decided that it will not be possible to resume examinations and interviews under current circumstances.
The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2020, scheduled to be held on May 31, 2020, therefore, stands deferred as per the latest UPSC notification published on their website https://upsconline.nic.in/. Since this examination also serves as the screening test for the Indian Forest Service Examination, the schedule for the Indian Forest Service Examination is also deferred. The situation will be reviewed again on May 20, 2020, and fresh dates for these examinations shall be notified on the UPSC website in due course.
UPSC aspirants will now take a sigh of relief. They will also have to make the required change in strategy as the exam is postponed.
